MOAR by Joan Cornellà: Provocative NFTs from the Satirical Artist

In April 2022, renowned Spanish artist Joan Cornellà, known for his satirical comics and posters, unveiled his first NFT collection titled “MOAR.”

As we mark the anniversary of the dynamic digital Profile Picture (PFP) artworks crafted by an illustrator with a unique penchant for dark humor and surrealism, let's pause and marvel at the diversity and excitement that the NFT world offers.

MOAR is a collection of 5555 inhabitants of a multi-storey building who are having a fun time in isolation while hiding from an alien invasion. Not all of the residents of this space are humans; there are zombies, bio-robots, and other creatures among them. Their mansion is a standalone space with shops and entertainment, and even virtual events and exhibitions are even held there, so nobody wants to leave it.

The MOAR collection emerged from a collaboration with art company FWENCLUB. Each artwork in the collection has been meticulously hand-drawn by the talented artist, adding to its exceptional value. The purchase of an NFT grants access to the FWENCLUB metaverse building, complete with a funky 3D avatar.

In addition, NFT owners are granted complimentary admission to the artist's physical exhibitions and have the right to use the purchased artwork for their own purposes.

The collection features:

  • Non-fungible tokens minted on the Ethereum blockchain;
  • Over 200 unique attributes;
  • Annual sales volume of 15,000 ETH;
  • Prices for the NFTs range from 0.2133 to 69 ETH.

According to the project roadmap, a virtual exhibition of the MOAR collection and the opening of rooms in the FWENCLUB metaverse for MOAR NFT holders are expected in 2023.

Legendary MOAR#1 and its sale

The first NFT in the MOAR collection features the iconic image of a man in a suit wielding a gun, which is widely recognized from Joan Cornellà's comics. This non-fungible token is considered one of the most prized assets in the collection. MOAR #1 was sold for 46.305 ETH at the primary auction (the buyer also received a physical painting as a gift). The artist's website notes that proceeds from NFT sales are directed towards the development of the MOAR DAO.

Meet the MOAR creator

Joan Cornellà, the illustrator behind the MOAR NFT collection, was born in Barcelona in 1981. He is known for his distinct artistic technique of contrast, which is evident in his works. Cornellà's artworks are characterized by black humor and a sense of despair, as he fearlessly explores taboo subjects and satirizes the complexities of human nature. However, he also uses bright colors, smiles, and simple visual language to convey his message.

Cornellà's artworks have been published in magazines such as La cultura del Duodeno, El Periódico, and Ara. He has also created caricatures for The New York Times and exhibited in art museums in Hong Kong, Seoul, London, Paris, New York, and other cities.
