Mother’s Day in Crypto: Posts from Nayib Bukele, Ross Ulbricht & Others

Crypto posts took a sentimental detour on May 11, thanks to Mother’s Day celebrations across the community. The day is marked in the US, Canada, Japan, Germany and several other countries.
Mother’s Day messages filled crypto Twitter/X alongside the usual charts, analytics, and announcements on the second Sunday of May.
This Mother’s Day, many popular names in crypto, including developer Ross Ulbricht, journalist Eleanor Terrett, El Salvador’s pro-Bitcoin President Nayib Bukele, and YouTuber Farzad, dedicated posts to the moms in their families.
In a market driven by tech, trading, and analysis, moments like this help the space feel more human and connected.
Mother's Day Messages from the Crypto Community
For Ross Ulbricht, the developer behind the darknet market Silk Road, this Mother’s Day was his first in freedom. He marked the occasion by sharing a photo with his mom, Lyn, and his wife, Caroline.
“So good to be with my mom today,” Ulbricht wrote on X, adding, “She did so much to free me and never gave up on me. I hereby nominate her for Mother of the century!”
Ulbricht was arrested in 2013 for creating Silk Road, a marketplace that allowed anonymous Bitcoin transactions, many of which involved illegal goods. While his lawyers and supporters argued that he wasn’t directly involved in the illicit activity, he was ultimately sentenced to two life terms.
After spending 11 years in prison, he was granted a pardon by Donald Trump. Since his release, Ulbricht shares personal stories and moments from time to time.
Others in the crypto space also took a moment to celebrate. Journalist and Crypto America host Eleanor Terrett shared a childhood photo with her mom, writing on X:
“Wishing a very happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing mamas out there, including mine!”
El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele took a brief break from politics to celebrate his wife and mother.
In one post, he thanked his wife for taking care of their two children. In another, dedicated to his mother, Bukele shared photos of her at formal events and family gatherings.
Farzad (@farzyness), a YouTuber and Bitcoiner, reflected on Bitcoin’s growth and year-over-year price this Mother’s Day. With BTC trading above $100,000 in recent days, he called it the best possible Mother’s Day gift.
The Bitcoiner congratulated his wife and all mothers on the day. “Without mothers, nothing exists,” he wrote.
