FIFA Partners With Avalanche to Launch a Custom Blockchain

FIFA launches a new blockchain platform built on Avalanche for digital collectibles and fan engagement.
FIFA, a globally recognized football organization, has partnered with Avalanche to develop a new blockchain platform as part of its expanding Web3 strategy. Named FIFA Blockchain, the network aims to deliver digital collectibles and enhance fan engagement.
In an official announcement, Avalanche stated that the initiative will begin with the migration of FIFA Collect, an NFT platform designed for football-related collectibles.
FIFA Advances Web3 Strategy with Custom Blockchain for Digital Assets
FIFA has been exploring Web3 technologies as new ways to connect with fans for some time. In May 2022, the organization announced a partnership with Algorand to launch a digital collectibles platform ahead of the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
In June 2024, FIFA revealed a collaboration with tech company Modex to further integrate Web3 and blockchain into its brand. Now, by launching its own custom blockchain on Avalanche, FIFA aims to introduce new digital products that are compatible with the Ethereum blockchain.
According to Modex CEO Francesco Abbate, Ethereum compatibility will allow assets on the FIFA chain to seamlessly integrate with popular wallets, making access easier for users. The Avalanche network enables developers to build custom blockchains using its infrastructure. In December 2024, the platform launched a major upgrade, Avalanche9000, which reduces development costs and improves interoperability.
Blockchain Adoption in Sports Continues to Grow
FIFA’s new custom blockchain shows growing demand for blockchain solutions in sports. Earlier this year, the National Football League (NFL) partnered with Mythical Games to launch the NFL Rivals game on the Mythos blockchain.
Brand partnerships between crypto and sports are on the rise. European crypto exchange WhiteBIT, an official partner of FC Barcelona, recently hosted the first International Trading Cup Tournament, where the name of the winner, Max Hamaha, appeared at the Barcelona Stadium during a match against Real Madrid.
These developments show that the connection between the sports and crypto industries is strengthening, opening up new opportunities for fan engagement, digital ownership, and brand partnerships.
