Gucci to Accept ApeCoins, Receives More Cooperation Offers
High-end fashion house Gucci is making positive waves in the crypto community.
On Monday, the fashion behemoth announced that it is planning to accept payments in ApeCoin (APE), the Bored Ape Yacht Club-affiliated token, via the BitPay platform.
“Now accepting @ApeCoin payments via @BitPay, select Gucci boutiques in the USA expand the range of cryptocurrencies available for in-store purchases, yet another step in the House's exploration of Web3,” Gucci’s announcement on Twitter reads.
The tweet received thousands of likes as well as offers from other companies to cooperate. One of them was issued by a blockchain project dubbed VeChain which replied, “#VeChain can directly integrate #Web3 into your product lines and provide next generation authenticity, traceability, and after-sale capabilities, leveraging the power of trustless data, IoT & our advanced #blockchain tech. DMs are open if you want to talk tech @gucci. $VET.”
The fate of that offer is yet to be determined.
Gucci is known for its interest in all things metaverse. In June, it unveiled its own virtual world and welcomed everyone to Gucci Town, which features “New Tokyo”, fashion accessories for NFT owners to purchase with profile pics, and a fictional character Wagmi-San.
The fashion house also purchased the SuperRare DAO’s token $RARE for $25,000 which marks the brand’s entry into the NFT marketplace as a web3 art curator. It also presented a new NFT art project “Vault Art Space”.
Meanwhile, ApeCoin, which suffered from the crypto winter alongside all other coins, is slowly recovering. Over the course of seven days, the coin’s price surged by almost 8%. It is trading at $7.33 press-time.
Other coins, including Bitcoin and Ethereum, continue to show slow recovery, trading at $23,348.81 and $1,720.07 respectively press-time.
In May, one of the leading NFT platforms OpenSea announced it began accepting the ApeCoin token as a means of payment.
