Tech Companies join forces to start the Metaverse Standards Forum

The Metaverse Standards Forum was created by such tech giants as Autodesk, Epic Games, Huawei, NVIDIA, Microsoft, Sony Interactive Entertainment, Meta, Adobe and many others.

Moreover, any organization can actually join the MSF without any entry fee. Interestingly, Apple is not on the list of announced members. The forum will officially hold its first meeting in July.

The project's launch was announced on the 21st of June and aims to connect the world’s most innovative companies to lead a dialogue and cooperate on developing interoperability norms for the metaverse. The forum’s fundamental goal is to coordinate all the necessary processes that will stop holding back the adoption of the metaverse.

The metaverse is motivating the novel integration and deployment of diverse technologies for collaborative spatial computing, such as interactive 3D graphics, augmented and virtual reality, photorealistic content authoring, geospatial systems, end-user content tooling, digital twins, real-time collaboration, physical simulation, online economies, multi-user gaming, and more – at new levels of scale and immersiveness.

is said in the official press release.

It was agreed by members of the forum that the metaverse can strive only if it is going to be based on open and universal standards by SDOs.

When speaking of the initiative, Neil Trevett, Khronos president said:

The Metaverse Standards Forum is a unique venue for coordination between standards organizations and industry, with a mission to foster the pragmatic and timely standardization that will be essential to an open and inclusive metaverse.

The key trajectories of the forum include interactive 3D assets and photorealistic rendering, human interface and interaction paradigms (AR, VR and XR), user-generated content, privacy, avatar creation, asset transactions, and others.

Previously, a study conducted by McKinsey & Company estimated that the Metaverse market is most likely to reach $5 trillion by 2030.
