Javier Milei’s Wild Gift to Elon Musk: A DOGE Chainsaw?
Javier Milei, Argentina’s president who certainly knows how to spark strong reactions, made waves again at CPAC in Washington DC on February 21.

He gifted Elon Musk a chainsaw—not just any chainsaw, but one engraved with his signature slogan: “Viva la libertad, carajo” (translated as “Long live liberty, damn it”).
For some context, Milei used the chainsaw as a campaign symbol to represent his plans for deep government spending cuts. Now, he’s passed it to Musk, who leads the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) with a similar mission: cutting federal spending and bringing technological improvements to the system.
On the CPAC stage, Musk wielded the gift, declaring, “This is the chainsaw for bureaucracy”.

Does Musk's Chainsaw Gift Have a Connection With Dogecoin?
Given that Musk’s DOGE shares the same abbreviation as the popular memecoin Dogecoin, the two are often seen as linked. The tech billionaire has previously mentioned Dogecoin multiple times on X, where he praised its technology and use in transactions, earning the nickname “Dogefather” for his support.
Musk hasn’t shied away from linking his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) with Dogecoin. The obvious connection? The name.
After receiving Milei’s gift, Musk took to X to share a photo from the conference, where “The Dogefather” could be seen written in the background.
As is often the case, Musk's post sparked activity in the memecoin community. But this time, it wasn’t Dogecoin that benefited. Instead, another memecoin, called Dogefather, surged by 96%, while Dogecoin’s price dipped slightly, according to data from CoinGecko.
Javier Milei: Populist, Shitcoiner, or Actually an Effective Leader?
Javier Milei’s influence doesn’t end with chainsaws and catchy slogans – he’s also made waves in the world of memecoins.
The Argentine president recently faced backlash due to a post about the memecoin LIBRA, which skyrocketed in value.
However, the token quickly fell from grace, with its value plummeting. LIBRA’s crash sparked investigations and stirred up conversations about the potential risks. Meanwhile, Milei deleted his post and clarified that he didn’t promote LIBRA, just shared it.
Milei’s association with the project left some questioning his role in such a speculative space, with many unsure if he fully understood the dynamics of crypto or was simply leveraging the hype for political capital.
In his recent post sharing the moment of his meeting with Musk, some users criticized the president. @SpicyTuna_TV asked when he would launch the next crypto scam, while Cory Bates (@corybates1895) called Milei a “shitcoiner” compared to Bitcoiner Nayib Bukele.
But alongside the critics, Milei has a large number of supporters who believe in his politics and libertarian views. He was elected as Argentina’s president in November 2023, and surveys show he has the support of about half the population.
Before becoming Argentina’s president, Milei had a career as an economist and TV personality.
