Google introduced the next generation of its smart thermostat, the Nest Learning Thermostat, after a ten-year break. This latest model boasts an entirely new design and several upgrades, including support for the Matter smart home standard. The key innovation, however, is the integration of artificial intelligence.
The AI analyzes factors like weather conditions and user habits to automatically fine-tune the heating and ventilation systems. Users can also set specific preferences and override the suggested settings.
We wanted to take the black box approach out of it. It’s an incredibly intelligent device, but that shouldn’t mean you don’t know what’s going on,
said Anish Kattukaran, Google Home's Director of Product Management.
The Nest Learning Thermostat is priced at $279.99, with optional temperature sensors available at $39.99 each or $99.99 for a set of three. Pre-orders are open in the US and Canada via the official website, with shipping set to start on August 20, 2024.
