British universities that train crypto experts

Not all universities are ready to embrace the new reality of digital assets such as cryptocurrencies. Curriculums are typically fully oriented towards the outdated banking system with fiat currencies. However, there are universities in the UK that are eager to keep up with the times and move forward.

On this page

Leading universities in the UK, including Cambridge, Edinburgh, Oxford, Imperial, and University College London, offer educational programs related to blockchain and digital assets.

The aforementioned universities are implementing advanced research programmes, courses and lecture series to provide students with practical experience in areas such as blockchain technology, cryptocurrencies, smart contracts, privacy and security. Students enrolled in these programmes will acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to become leaders in the field of blockchain, and to bring digital innovation to different sectors of the economy.

Let's take a look at several UK universities offering blockchain and digital asset studies.

University of Cambridge

Cambridge University is a well-respected public higher education institution with international recognition. One of its prominent research centers is the Center for Alternative Finance (CCAF), which focuses on projects related to alternative finance, including the study of blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies.

CCAF conducts research on various aspects of blockchain technology, including implementation and regulation. At Cambridge, students may attend blockchain courses such as “Distributed Ledger Technologies: Foundations and Applications” offered by the Department of Computer Science and Technology. A 16-hour course covers topics such as blockchain development, consensus algorithms, smart contracts, Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other cryptocurrencies.

In addition, the university has created the Cambridge Digital Assets Program, which has been developed over several years and focuses on different forms of digital assets and value transfer systems. The program explores various aspects of the formation of a new market for digital assets, including the impact on the environment during their creation, the distributed infrastructure of the financial market, new monetary systems built on tokenized assets, and more.

The University of Edinburgh offers several courses related to blockchain technology, in addition to its research efforts. One such course is a module for students called “Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technologies,” which covers the fundamental concepts of blockchain technology, including consensus protocols, cryptography, smart contracts, and analysis of blockchain protocols.

Imperial College London

Imperial College London offers a Master's degree program in Financial Technology (Fintech) that consists of pre-sessional, core, and elective modules, as well as a project component. The program covers topics such as blockchain technology, programming (including open-source and decentralized application development), digital assets, and more.

Additionally, the college offers a master class on “Blockchain Technology: Fundamentals, Applications, and Implications”. The educational program spans six weeks and covers topics such as cryptography, smart contracts, and decentralized finance (DeFi).

University College London

University College London (UCL) is a prestigious public university, a member of the Russell Group of the UK's leading research universities, and is recognised as one of the world's leading higher education institutions offering a comprehensive spectrum of academic disciplines.

UCL's Blockchain Executive Education Programme is an eight-week executive course designed to help business leaders, innovators, regulators and government officials explore the different use cases of blockchain technology and understand the pros and cons of various business models.

University College London also offers a program under the title “Emerging Digital Technologies”, which can help individuals who are focused on the latest digital technologies. Students who complete the core modules will gain practical experience working with technologies in fields such as data science, blockchain, and information management systems.

To sum it up

These universities demonstrate that they are modern and strive to provide their students and learners with the most up-to-date data and knowledge of digital assets and blockchain technologies, which can be practically applied in any field that requires them. For anyone interested in the digital asset industry, obtaining an education at such a renowned institution is highly recommended.
