The International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) has released guidelines concerning the regulatory approach to the decentralized finance (DeFi) industry.
IOSCO points out that numerous global standards and normative frameworks are applicable to the operations within DeFi, as well as the entities and mechanisms that govern them. Should these rules prove inadequate, modifications are recommended.
The international regulator maintains that in the DeFi realm, those responsible include individuals who wield control or substantial influence over the financial products offered, services provided, or financial activities conducted.
Therefore, IOSCO underscores that governance via a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) does not absolve such individuals from their statutory duties and accountability.
