Meta is gearing up to roll out its new AI chip, Artemis, in its data centers this year, according to a Reuters report. This development could significantly diminish Meta's dependence on Nvidia processors.
Artemis is engineered to propel Meta's AI endeavors within its array of platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Ray-Ban smart glasses. Inheriting features from its predecessor, this chip specializes in a process known as logical inference, critical for AI models to generate responses.
Dylan Patel, the founder of the research group SemiAnalysis, points out that a successful launch of Artemis could drastically cut Meta's energy costs by hundreds of millions of dollars. Furthermore, the savings could be even more substantial if Meta reduces its dependency on other chip manufacturers.
