Decentralization can actually bring resilience and strength to the financial system. So I’d love to see more resilience and strength … points of centralization always keep me up at night,
remarked Peirce.
Peirce also criticized bills currently being debated in the Senate aimed at combating money laundering or classifying DeFi applications as financial institutions. She believes the decentralized ecosystem vastly differs from traditional finance, suggesting the commission should limit its interference.
Recently, the SEC saw the departure of its crypto enforcement division head, Ladan Stewart, who played a key role in legal actions against Coinbase and Ripple (XRP). Stewart has moved to the law firm White & Case, aiming to expand her focus on cyber and crypto defense.
