OpenAI announced a partnership with the Los Alamos National Laboratory, renowned for its role in developing the world’s first atomic weapon.
According to OpenAI's blog, the purpose of this partnership is to investigate how scientists can safely use artificial intelligence in lab settings to advance bioscience research.
This partnership marks a natural progression in our mission, advancing scientific research, while also understanding and mitigating risks,
said Mira Murati, OpenAI’s Chief Technology Officer.
The initiative will see Los Alamos National Laboratory and OpenAI working together to quantify and assess how advanced models can improve the skills of both seasoned professionals and new entrants in real-world biological tasks.
The collaboration plans to utilize GPT-4's capability to gather information through cameras and voice input, enabling users to show an object and ask the chatbot questions directly.
