Republicans, notably Congressman Tom Emmer, have previously suggested this possibility. Emmer has also speculated that Senator Elizabeth Warren, known for her critical views on cryptocurrencies, might be a candidate for the position.
However, X users are questioning the accuracy of these reports. Caitlin Long, CEO of Castodia Bank, called the rumors unfounded, citing unnamed Democrats.
“That said, I could totally see this as made-up rumor. If you were a Republican and you wanted to help shore up the crypto vote, hard to think of anything more powerful than giving ppl the visual of Genz having even more power. Even if not true, it's potent,” wrote ETF analyst Eric Balchunas on X.
