Sony Block Solutions Labs, a collaborative venture between Sony Group and Startale, announced the launch of a new public L2 blockchain named Soneium, built on Optimism's OP Stack. This blockchain will be a part of the Superchain ecosystem. The testnet is set to be released in the upcoming days, with Sota Watanabe leading the project.
Watanabe, who also leads Startale and co-founded the Astar Network, is overseeing the integration of the Astar Network into Soneium. As part of this integration, the ASTR token will be incorporated as a key asset within the new ecosystem, and external projects will be actively encouraged to launch on Soneium.
Astar zkEVM will be integrating its assets and underlying infrastructure with Soneium,
the companies stated.
Watanabe mentioned that the first year will focus on technological enhancement and community development. Following this, there are plans to integrate Soneium with major Sony products, such as Sony Music and Sony Pictures, and eventually extend it to other companies.
