With the upcoming release of HBO’s documentary Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery, debates have erupted online about whom HBO will claim as the real Satoshi Nakamoto. Bets are even being placed on Polymarket.
Previously, Len Sassaman, a well-known cryptographer, led the Polymarket bets. However, recent changes indicate that confidence in his being Satoshi has waned.
This shift coincided with public remarks made by Len Sassaman’s widow, Meredith Patterson, who refuted any possibility that her late husband was the mastermind behind Bitcoin. Furthermore, she disclosed that HBO had never contacted her regarding the documentary.

Currently, according to Polymarket data, the odds have moved in favor of other potential candidates. Nick Szabo, often credited with creating smart contracts, is now the frontrunner.
Adam Back, the inventor of the proof-of-work system Hashcash and co-founder of Blockstream, has also surpassed Sassaman. In response to the speculation, Back commented on X, “No one knows who satoshi is. and that's a good thing.”
The movie Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery, which we discussed earlier, is expected to premiere on October 9, around 2 a.m. CET. It's still unknown whether Satoshi Nakamoto’s true identity will be revealed or if only speculations will be shared.
