According to Protos, the Linux Foundation has officially ended support for its long-standing Bitcoin Mailing List, which served as a central hub for Bitcoin developers for over a decade.
On November 5, 2024, the migration of the Bitcoin Mailing List was completed, and Bitcoin Core developers permanently removed its archives from the Linux Foundation’s open-source platform. Visitors to the former archive homepage are now greeted with the message, “No such list bitcoin-dev.”

For more than ten years, the Bitcoin Mailing List served as the primary channel for developers’ technical discussions and decision-making. Created in 2008, it played a vital role in coordinating updates to Bitcoin Core, the software that powers all Bitcoin network transactions.
The mailing list will now continue on Google Groups, hosted by Google. Some historical records, including posts from earlier platforms like SourceForge.net and OSUOSL, have been uploaded to Google Group by Bitcoin developer Bryan Bishop.
This migration preserved much of Bitcoin’s history, though some archived pages remain inaccessible. Users seeking specific historical records can refer to the Wayback Machine on Archive.org, which holds snapshots of the old archive.
This transition marks the end of an era in which Bitcoin discussions were centralized in a single location. In recent years, developers have expanded to a broader range of platforms, including secure channels for pseudonymous or anonymous collaboration.
