Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has made a heartfelt donation of 10 million Thai Baht ($293,000) to help Mu Deng, a baby pygmy hippo, through the Wildlife Sponsorship Program.
According to a statement from Khao Kheow Zoo, the first 50% of Vitalik Buterin’s donation has been successfully transferred.
This donation will fund the hippo family’s care for the next two years. In his letter to the zoo, Buterin declared his role as the baby hippo’s “adoptive father,” promising to oversee its health and behavior through online updates. The Ethereum co-founder shared that his decision was inspired by the unforgettable experience he had during his visit to Thailand and the impression left by the animals at Khao Kheow Zoo.

As expected, the crypto world didn’t hold back, responding with a delightful cascade of memes featuring Buterin and his newfound role as a hippo “dad.” The reactions were overwhelmingly positive and heartwarming.
