A father of four, working part-time as a Facebook moderator, narrowly escaped an attempted abduction, reports French newspaper La Presse. To protect his family, his identity has been kept confidential.
The ordeal began in early November when he reported two masked individuals attempting to enter his home. A few days later, while driving his daughter to daycare, he noticed an unmarked car tailing him. Acting quickly, he called the police. Thanks to their rapid response, the suspects were arrested.
The investigation revealed that the assailants were motivated by the man’s digital assets. They had kept tabs on his forum activity, concluding that he likely held significant Bitcoin wealth. A search later uncovered torture devices, further revealing their malicious intent.

Law enforcement has officially charged four individuals in connection with the crime. Curiously, despite the serious nature of the charges, the suspects were released under house arrest while awaiting their trial in mid-2025.
Given the suspects' connections to organized crime, the police recommended that the family uproot their lives to avoid further danger. With no assurances of protection, the parents have resorted to hopping between Airbnb rentals, spending their meager $10,000 savings on survival. The situation is made worse by the fact that the father doesn’t own any Bitcoin wallets—contrary to the attackers' beliefs. Concerned by the instability and stress, child services have begun monitoring the welfare of the four children..
The lesson from this ordeal is clear: absolute secrecy is essential, not just about the size of your crypto portfolio but even the fact that you own cryptocurrency at all. Criminals are quick to embellish the truth, mentally inflating small balances into substantial fortunes.
One might speculate that the moderator had painted himself as a savvy trader or market leader. Such a facade, if true, may have been his downfall, costing him not only his digital dreams but also his fiat reserves.
