In a recent tweet, the Friend․tech team opened up about their awareness of potential rivals and clones entering the market.
In response, they shared a cautionary post on X (Twitter):
“…users moving to forks and copies will automatically opt out of earning Points and forfeit existing points. They will be able to use the app normally.”
Such a statement ignited a wave of negative comments:
“Threatening / penalizing users for trialing other platforms is completely against everything this industry stands for.”
“This is a prime example of how not to handle competition in Web3 lol — excited to read the apology in a few hours.
”As expected, a few hours later, the project’s founder extended an apology statement:
“I’ve been operating from fear. Fear that my best days are behind me. That fear made me act with a mindset that is zero sum when i told you not to use other products. It was a stupid statement.”
