Leading telecommunications company Telefónica announced a partnership with the Solana-based decentralized wireless network Helium Mobile to launch hotspots in Mexico.
The solution allows select customers in Mexico City and Oaxaca access the Helium Mobile Network using their Movistar SIM cards for authentication.
Helium hotspots are connected to Telefónica’s proprietary management system and will validate user wireless activities. This will improve connectivity during busy times and improve overall customer experience. Customers will get access to the internet switching between the standard mobile network and the Helium network when in the range of a hotspot.
By integrating Helium’s infrastructure, Telefónica expands its services, especially in remote areas. The chief wholesale officer of the company, José Haro mentioned that the company is exploring ways to expand its coverage through innovative, lower-cost and cooperative-based solutions.
