Heather Morgan, the wife of Ilya “Dutch” Lichtenstein linked to the 2016 Bitfinex hack, was sentenced to 18 months in prison for her conspiratory role in money laundering.
The duo was found guilty of laundering 119,754 bitcoins, valued at $72 million at the time, now worth around $4.5 billion. According to Bloomberg, prosecutors noted that Morgan’s role was smaller, as she wasn’t involved in the hack but helped Lichtenstein launder the stolen funds.
Ilya Lichtenstein, on the other hand, got 5 years in prison.
Morgan, who goes by the name Razzlekhan in her rap songs, previously called herself the “Crocodile of Wall Street” and “bad-ass money maker” in her lyrics.
The pair were arrested in February 2022 while attempting to cash out some of the funds. They were found guilty in 2023, and prosecutors stated that the duo laundered approximately 21% of the stolen cryptocurrency.
On November 19, Morgan shared a post on X, saying she would continue to share her “creative and other endeavors,” as well as her story and thoughts with the public. She mentioned battling the case over the last three years and plans to remain active now that it is resolved.
