It wasn’t a good week for Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher, the famous actors behind the Stoner Cats. The US Securities and Exchange Commission charged the couple with issuing unregistered securities.
We decided to check the collection out to see what the whole fuss is about. So let’s take a look together.
These cats fancy the shizzle
Available on the OpenSea market with the floor price of 0.074 ETH, the Stoner Cat collection appears to be popular. It has 5,194 owners and 50% unique ones.
The collection expectedly focuses on cats, offering mini web series to the users. “The show is centered around five house cats who mysteriously become sentient. With their higher consciousness, they realize that their beloved owner needs rescue from a myriad of dangerous situations,” the description reads.
Most of the cats are – again, expectedly – into smoking weed while also doing all sorts of other things as well. For example, playing video games. This is the case with the Stoner Cat #198 owned by SirHazealot. Available for sale, its estimated value at the moment is $145.70

Then there’s the Stoner Cats #7605. Looking slightly cuckoo, the cat is wearing a panama while also holding a stack of money and some weed purportedly for medical purposes. It is likewise up for sale and is available for 0.098 ETH ($158.65)

A Stoner Cat that’s a little bit more pricey includes the Stoner Cats #4618. It looks like it has just visited Paris where it got not just a “plateau du fromage” (French for a cheese plate) and a book on Advanced Plant Biochemistry (now, what could that be for?). Its price is $379.48.

The Stoner Cats #7101 seems to have a Moroccan touch to it. And a Swedish one too, offering “sweedish fish”. Kids, don’t try that fish please. Be responsible.

Finally, here’s the expensive Stoner Cats that look a little bit like Dumbledore. That is, if Hogwarts offered more than just butter beer and recurrent murders. The price of this cat, however, is nothing short of magical. The NFT’s worth is estimated at just over $11 thousand.

Now, if you’re as observant as us, – and perhaps old too – then the Stoner Cats collection may have reminded you of the Disney’s iconic cartoon the Aristocats.
So, are people actually buying these NFTs following the SEC’s decision to label them as securities?
As a matter of fact, yes!
According to reports, some are doing it as a gag, “for the lulz”, or as a cultural relic as a prominent NFT project that has faced regulatory action.
