The crypto market is flooded with different coins, and it’s no wonder why.
Digital artist Johnny Shankman, who goes by the alias whitelights.eth on Twitter, has given the perfect explanation in a recent tweet.

He posted a video where he completes a “speedrun” of creating and deploying an entirely new token, humorously dubbed “EASY_MONEY,” in just 27 seconds.
He also adds that the video was deployed on a testnet and is meant only for educational purposes, while also reminding everyone to prioritize their safety.
The video turned out to be viral.
Improving on Shankman’s meme coin speedrun, a user named @0xdiid was able to do it even faster, setting the record at 22.45 seconds.
The same user later managed to further improve the result to 15.85 seconds.

The tweets received a considerable amount of attention, with various users pointing out that creating a low-quality cryptocurrency requires very little effort, even for those moderately familiar with the procedure. @0xdiid chimed in on the conversation as well.
“It is this easy to create an arbitrary ERC20.” The work that follows afterwards isn't as easy, though. From building properly configured liquidity pools to the subsequent marketing.
“The ease of creating a token does not directly lead to the ease of swindling others for millions,” @0xdiid tweeted, adding “Remember kids: tokens don't rug people, people rug people.”
The speedruns come against the backdrop of the ongoing memefrenzy, where meme coins, most notably the Pepe coin, play one of the key roles.
As a result, Bitcoin transaction fees have reached a multi-year high.
