#Ratelimitexceeded: Best Responses to Musk’s Announcement

#Ratelimitexceeded: Best Responses to Musk’s Announcement

Musk is once again taking controversial decisions regarding Twitter policies. The community doesn’t wish to keep silent.

Elon Musk's decision to limit the number of tweets available to different types of users on Twitter has caused a true uproar.

In response to Musk’s tweet, where he claims that “to address extreme levels of data scraping & system manipulation, we’ve applied the following temporary limits: – verified accounts are limited to reading 6,000 posts/day–  unverified accounts to 600 posts/day – new unverified accounts to 300/day”, many users expressed strong frustration.

Some responses, the overwhelming majority of which are critical, include “Never did I think I’d see a social media app become pay to win” and “Bro why did you even purchase this app when you can't handle it”.

However, we decided to dig deeper, screening the #Ratelimitexceeded hashtag, to see how the Twitter verse responded to Musk’s decision.

Here’s what we found.

First off, here is a meme by @wolfgangluvsyou that mocks Elon’s reported desire to be cool through the acquisition of Twitter, one of the most successful social media platforms in the world. After the bird answered “no” to his question about whether he’s cool now, he decided to suspend it.

Although the meme was created in November 2022, it has been resurfaced by some users as it appears to have aged well.

Others, like @superking1816 were suggesting that the former Twitter employees and the creator would use this opportunity to pitch a new social media platform to the investors. The pitch boils down to one line “literally just Twitter without Elon.”

Meanwhile, a user by the name of Craig posed the rhetorical question, “How was your Twitter experience today, Craig?” The book title, which is supposed to serve as an answer, is self-explanatory.

Another user, Karan, re-posted a gif from Danval based on the Joker movie with Joaquin Phoenix where he’s smiling while writing, “reached my rate limit looking at all the rate limit memes.”

The crypto community on Twitter also jumped into the fray, with some using the commotion as a way to attract attention. As an example, Galacticats NFTs boldly proclaimed “Twitter is dead” before announcing to the community that they would be hosting an AMA session on Discord.

The final pick for today is from @paulromoo who, in response to the earthquake in Los Angeles on Sunday, posted a caption that reads “checks Twitter to see if it was really an earthquake and sees that my tweet limit is exceeded” alongside a crying boy.
