According to the new Director of Policy at Polygon Labs, Rebecca Rettig, smart contracts are neither smart nor contracts:

“A smart contract is simply software that establishes the rules of the road for transparent and easily verifiable transactions.”
She claims that this technical jargon used to describe new technologies confuses both the general public and lawmakers. This leads to distrust and confusion instead of realizing the potential of blockchain.
Well, we agree: the simpler, the better.
