Cryptocurrency board games

Did you know there are board games about cryptocurrency and digital assets that are becoming increasingly popular among both children and adults?

On this page

Board games can be a fun way to teach young people about financial literacy, including preparing them for the future use of cryptocurrencies. Let's take a look at the most popular board games in the niche of economic strategy based on virtual assets.

The “Cryptocurrency” Board Game

“Cryptocurrency” is a game for 2-4 players where opponents compete to earn as much money as possible by mining and trading cryptocurrencies. The game raised $15,000 on Kickstarter during the idea phase.

Each player acts as the CEO of a fintech startup, managing a specialized team of experts who help evaluate, trade, and mine various cryptocurrencies. However, some cryptocurrencies are fraudulent and are designed only to extract money from careless or unsuspecting investors. Therefore, each player must carefully and thoughtfully analyze all available information to avoid deception. In this game, players must make strategic decisions about hiring experts, deciphering cryptocurrency mining algorithms, and manipulating the market by spreading false information. During the game, players participate in tactical cryptocurrency trading and must get rid of all low-value or potentially fraudulent coins before it ends.

Each player has the opportunity to hire qualified personnel who can improve their abilities in cryptocurrency mining, stock speculation, or the spread of false rumors. By building a strategy for mining high-value cryptocurrencies, players don't have to waste time in vain, because the complexity of mining will only increase with each issued coin (just like in the real crypto world). It is worth carefully analyzing each of the four cryptocurrencies. This allows a player to determine which of them is likely to be a scam project and which have the potential to create the next digital revolution.

Hiring effective specialists who will produce results is not an easy task. It's just like in real life

Players can vary their steps to achieve their goal:

  • Speculate and manipulate the value of cryptocurrencies;
  • Create capital through mining;
  • Spread false information (fake news) and rumors to influence opponents' investment portfolios to gain the advantage.

It will only be known just before the game finale whether certain rumors were true or not. This will affect the results and determine which cryptocurrencies are fraudulent. The coin with the lowest number of points will be recognized as a “scam” and lose its value.

During the game, participants must learn to “read” their opponents' moves, plan their own strategy and next moves (almost like in chess). It takes skill to trade coins and spread rumors to get closer to victory. Through manipulation, opponents must be forced to buy sh*tcoins while players remain with valuable assets!

After the game, participants calculate their capital, which includes fiat and cryptocurrencies. The winner is the player with the highest sum of created and accumulated capital.

As a result of the game's interesting gameplay and well-designed design, it has many fans, as well as a gold medal from the International Serious Play Award. You can order it through the official website, eBay, or numerous game marketplaces.

Tabletop Game “Crypto”

Crypto is a strategic card game for 3-6 players that raised over $2,000 on the crowdfunding platform Indiegogo.

Anyone can play Crypto, even if they don't know anything about cryptocurrencies, but they can learn a lot during the game. Crypto features 8 different cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Monero, Ripple, Dogecoin, and more) and 4 types of auction. The game involves various formats of bidding and lasts for up to four rounds. The rules are straightforward: the winner is the one with more fiat and crypto assets after the last round

The game has four types of cards: rumors, hacks/bugs, sales, and hard fork, as well as different auction formats (Dutch, English, Bitcoin Vickrey, and fixed-price), which add variety to the gameplay.

After each round, the top three cryptocurrencies with the highest demand receive a bonus value of 30, 20, and 10 million dollars. Cryptocurrency owners can sell them at this value or hold on to them, hoping for further price growth.

“Crypto” like “Monopoly”

“Cryptocoinopoly” is the classic “Monopoly” game adapted to the digital asset market, created by cryptocurrency enthusiasts in late 2017.

The game features many different cryptocurrencies (Monero, Zcash, Verge, Neo, Tron, EOS, Stellar, Dogecoin, Bitcoin, BitCash, Ethereum, Сardano, NEM, Litecoin, Dash, Ripple, IOTA, Lisk, Qtum, and more), as well as brands of well-known crypto exchanges like Binance. The rules are the same as in the classic “Monopoly.”

This game is designed by KARB followers for newcomers to the digital asset market. 2-6 people aged 12 and over can play the game. The game features four cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Karbo, and CNS token). Players move around the game board, each cell of which encourages buying cryptocurrency or taking certain actions with assets (exchange, ASIC, terminal, chance, case, etc.). The winner is the one who becomes the owner of three BTC. The box includes a nice gift – a bonus code for a certain amount of Karbo coins.

Summary

As we can see, an introduction to cryptocurrencies can take place through gamification and gameplay. This is one of the strategically correct formats that contribute to crypto mass adoption and is aimed at “soft immersion” in the cryptocurrency industry. Through the game, newcomers become familiar with cryptocurrency terminology, exchange trading mechanisms, and fiat-to-crypto and crypto-to-fiat exchange operations. The most effective way to get interested in something is through games, and tabletop games, more than ever, come in handy.

Fiat is an outdated format of centralized money with one monopolistic issuer that should be gradually removed. This is because the future is still in decentralized crypto.
