Unity Releases SDK for Blockchain Gaming, Signals New Era for NFT
It seems we are on the brink of a new era in Web3 gaming, as Unity, the leading cross-platform game engine, has released an SDK for connecting to a number of blockchains, such as Solana, Aptos, ImmutableX, Algorand, Flow, Altura and Tezos. Additionally, an SDK has been developed to interact with Metamask, a cryptocurrency wallet.

Unity has been used to create many popular gaming projects, both for PC and smartphones. Some of these include Pokémon Go, Hearthstone, Cuphead, Rust, Hollow Knight, and others. Now, this engine can be easily applied to the development of NFT games.

For the gaming crypto industry, this represents an exciting development opportunity for the aforementioned blockchains. While many P2E (play-to-earn) projects failed to gain traction among “true” gamers due to poor game quality, particularly in terms of gameplay, there is hope that this situation will change with the introduction of NFT games powered by the Unity engine.
Following this news, tokens for ImmutableX (IMX) and Altura (ALU) have risen by 15%. However, the other mentioned cryptocurrencies have not shown a positive reaction, likely due to their own issues. For example, the Algorand ecosystem's MyAlgo wallet was recently exploited, while the Solana blockchain has had to pause operations multiple times due to network failures (which were highly inconvenient).

In relation to Metamask, ConsenSys, the company behind this cryptocurrency wallet, is launching a program for game developers called Sidequest. This program includes seminars, game jams, and grants of up to $100,000 USD. This is to give talented teams the opportunity to create more immersive game worlds using blockchain technology and NFTs. Applications for this program are being accepted until April 28th.
Interestingly, at the same time as the Unity news, the gaming blockchain platform MultiversX (previously known as Elrond) announced a new “super app” called xPortal, which enables encrypted messaging, cryptocurrency and NFT exchanges, and payments using bank cards, with a focus on the metaverse.
We eagerly anticipate the next stage in the development of the metaverse and blockchain gaming. It's possible that we could see some exciting crypto projects created using Unity as early as the end of this year.
