The scandalous case around the Canadian self-described Crypto King continues. His associate, 27 year-old Colin Murphy was sentenced to 5 months in jail for violating court order by deleting evidence on his phone.
Crypto King, whose real name is Aiden Pleterski, allegedly operated a $40M investment scam and spent investors' money on luxury cars and locations. In August 2022 he was forced into bankruptcy.
As for Colin Murphy, he’s accused of operating his own investment program in parallel. He talked investors into putting their money into the program showing his Porsche and Lamborghini as evidence of his returns on investments.
In November, 2022, investor Craig Sutherland filed a suit against Murphy to recover $270,000 in investments. Murphy was also forced to bankruptcy as court ordered him to surrender his Porsche, Ford and firearms to pay $120,000 in damages.
He refused to surrender his iPhone and a search warrant was executed against him for deleting data on the phone.
At the time, Murphy told local media that he deleted data because he keeps “super sensitive stuff” on the phone concerning his girlfriend. Murphy has refused to reveal where the data he removed was preserved since then.
